Oil vs. Rubberized
You may be wondering why would you want to go with an oil-based coating over a traditional rubberized or hard coating or even oil-based coatings?
The answer is blunt but simple. Traditional undercoating products are "cover-ups" that actually damage your vehicle. Why would you want to cover up your brand new vehicle with a coating that after a couple of years is going to peel, crack and entrap? Hard coatings sweat in between and actually promote rust. Once they start peeling, there isn't much you can do. Not to mention who wants black gunk all over their undercarriage's body panel? These coatings have absolutely ZERO corrosion inhibitors and will ruin your vehicle. On a used vehicle that has existing rust, realize that while you can descale surface rust, you will never eliminate it all. You cannot eliminate rust in inaccessible areas (inside the frame, body panels, etc.) In end, these traditional coatings are applied over rust, setting an internal clock for destruction. Sure they look nice (at first) but give it a year or two and you will regret the decision. Oil/tar-based coatings are dyed black to appear like they have resolved your rust issues.
